Porcelain veneers can give your teeth a whole new look. Often referred to as laminates, these tiny porcelain shells are made to match your teeth perfectly. They are thin enough to cover the surface and bond to your teeth to change its entire appearance, including its size, length, shape, and color. At Dental Associates of Maple Shade, we provide veneers in Maple Shade, New Jersey for patients who want to improve the look of one or more teeth.
Dental veneers that are made of porcelain provide a strong quality that resists future staining. This allows the teeth to look as natural as real teeth. They capture the color and tone of real teeth more accurately than veneers made from other materials.
Porcelain veneers are a good solution for the following:
• Discolored teeth from a variety of factors (smoking, drinks, food, decay)
• Broken teeth
• Chipped teeth
• Gapped teeth
• Irregularly shaped teeth
Who is a Good Candidate for Veneers?
If you feel you are a good candidate for dental veneers, you should consult with Dr. Sophia Lee regarding your goal to improve your teeth. After your initial consultation, it will take a few visits to the dentist to have your veneer process completed. It is important to discuss the changes you want to your smile.
Dr. Sophia Lee will perform x-rays, examine your teeth, and decide if veneers are the right option for you or if other dental services may work better. During these visits, it is a good time to review expectations you have about your smile and any potential limits to your treatment. Impressions of your teeth will also be required to prepare for the treatment and create the porcelain laminate covering.
How Porcelain Veneers Work
In order to install a veneer over a tooth, your dentist has to remove a minor amount of enamel from the natural surface of the tooth. The amount of enamel removed will perfectly match the thickness of the veneer. In some cases, an anesthetic will be applied to numb the tooth to alleviate any discomfort from this procedure.
Impressions of the teeth are also required in the process of creating the veneer. Your dentist will make an impression of the tooth or teeth that need veneers. A lab will create a veneer from this impression. The turn around time on the creation of the veneer could be up to two weeks and during this time, we will provide temporary veneers.
Once the veneers are ready, you will come back in to finish the procedure with Dr. Lee. She will check first to make sure the veneer fits properly and the teeth match in color. If it needs to be cut or trimmed to fit perfectly, she will make adjustments at that time. Changes in color can be made with the underlying cement the dentist uses during the process.
Your tooth will be cleaned, polished and sanded slightly for a strong bond before the veneer is placed on the tooth. Then, Dr. Lee will use a light that cures the cement, hardening the bond to the tooth. All excess material will be removed and any minor adjustments are made to make the veneer comfortable.
A follow-up visit is required to see how the fit feels and how the veneer is working for you.

What to Know About Veneers
Not everyone is the right candidate for veneers. In some cases, you may need something more extensive like dental implants or reconstruction services. Veneers are not reversible and removing enamel can make teeth more sensitive. The color is set in stone so if you want to whiten your teeth you will have to do it prior to obtaining veneers.
In rare occurrences, veneers could fall off, and they also can become decayed like any natural tooth. They are not recommended for someone with bad teeth or gum disease. If you grind your teeth, then veneers probably are not the right choice for you because you could damage them.
Veneers can last anywhere from 5-10 years. They will eventually need replacement after that period. Your veneers require regular brushing and flossing, It is probably best to stay away from foods and drinks that cause your other teeth to stain so that all your teeth still match your veneer replacement. This treatment is a great option for changing the shape of your teeth and giving your smile an instant makeover. Veneers are not usually covered by insurance and are considered a cosmetic procedure.
